Contribute a «bale movie» to the film competition at the International Round Bale Festival, Fjærland, Norway, August 2010! Make a round bale film, publish it or send it to us, and win money prizes, glory and honour.
The International Round Bale Festival is held every fourth year in Fjærland, in the middle of the fjord landscape of western Norway. The festival highlights, discusses and celebrates farming and how it impacts and interacts with society, environment, landscape and culture. We use an idiosyncratic mixture of art, humour, food, music and round bales to create a rural, multimedial experience like no other on earth.
Our focus is at modern farming, symbolised by the foil-wrapped round hay bales, familiar to most inhabitants of rural communities everywhere. If you can relate artistically to these often-overlooked manifestations of modern farming, we welcome you to make a short film contribution to the festival.
Rules are as follows:
1. The film must somehow relate to round bales.
We expect inhabitants of rural communities to be more at home with the round bale concept than urban dwellers, but the competition is open to all. Think round thoughts, walk in circles, recycle ideas, get grassy!
2. The film must not exceed 2 minutes in length.
Succinct and to-the-point contributions are appreciated.
3. The film must be made available to the comittee before noon on the 26th of August 2010. Noon means 12:00 UTC.
This can happen in one of two ways:
a) Send your contribution by email to post@rundballefestivalen.no, stating your name, address and country, email address and any other message you’d like. We reserve the right to publish the contribution on Youtube or similar.
b) Publish the contribution on Youtube yourself, taking great care to attach the tag «rundballefestivalen» (The round bale festival in Norwegian) to the film. This is necessary for us to find the film. Also, remember to notify us by mail of your intent to participate in the competition.
4. The film must be suitable for all ages.
Norwegians value their freedom of expression. Don’t be afraid to be political or provocative. However, you will be making a film targeted at a very broad audience, ranging from small children to very old. Please consider this.
The following will happen to your contribution:
1. All contributions will be added to our website; rundballefestivalen.no, and marketed in a multitude of ways, including posting the films on youtube.com.
2. All contributions will be projected on cinema canvas to the public visiting the festival, 27 to 29 August 2010. The public will be able to vote for their favourite film.
3. A separate jury will also vote for their favourite.
4. Public and jury favourites will receive a money prize for their efforts, and will be honoured online and on print. The final prize sum is not decided yet, but will be in multiples of NOK 1000.
The best of luck to all of you. Let the good bales roll!
Eivind Ødegård,
member of the Round Bale Festival comittee
